GARRAD HOUSE XMAS COFFEE MORNING

Our coffee morning this Friday (9.12.11) was not as usual because Rick, the Chairman and members of the House Committee were present, also Sheila, Garrad House Administrator was here and of course, our Volunteer helpers Dorcas and Janice who organise and arrange all our Social Events.

The coffee morning was a great success, we the residents were able to talk to the committee members and other visitors, whilst drinking coffee and enjoying a mince pie and putting the world to rights!  The morning passed all too quickly, it ended with Rick being Santa Claus with a sack full of Lucky Dips for the residents.

Our Xmas Pub Lunch was at The Rose & Crown – Kings Langley.  Transport was arranged for all the residents.

Thank you to all, including Dorrie our most recent Volunteer who was at both events to lend a hand.  Both events organised by Dorcas and Janice.

I feel I’m lucky to live in such a pleasant and happy home.

My thanks to all the staff, and I wish you all

A Very Happy Christmas!

Canal Trip in May

On 26th May the residents of Garrad House had their Annual Narrow Boat trip on the Grand Union Canal. We were driven to Nash Mills where we boarded our boat. This was not as simple as it sounds but our thoughtful volunteers used a wheelchair to ferry those among us who had difficulty walking from car to boat.

Then with the help of the crew we each in turn were taken aboard. Once all on board and settled in our seats we were off. From Kings Langley lock we made our way leisurely down water towards Watford admiring the scenery and life on the water. The swan with her three cygnets gliding gracefully along was lovely to see. Our next lock was Home Park and then North Grove passing several beautifully painted boats moored on the side. It was a tranquil experience with nature at its best at this time of year. Langleybury was our turning point and also our lunch time. Fish and chips were very welcome and very tasty. We then slowly made our way back to Nash Mills and in spite of the rain we all agreed it had been a most enjoyable day. We appreciated and sincerely thank everyone involved in making it happen. Rick who worked hard getting us aboard (and off again) Jill and Dorcas who provided us with welcome cups of tea and were always there to help up if needed. Our thanks must also go to the crew for their help and for the stock on board to season our fish and chips. I for one am looking forward to the next time.
